Bigme B6 Launches with 6-Inch Color E Ink Screen, Android 14, and Google Play

Here’s introducing the latest Bigme e-reader, the Bigme B6. The B6 comes across as a compact 6-inch device that blends the flexibility of Android 14 with the efficiency of E Ink technology. Listed on Amazon for $169.99, the B6 positions itself as an affordable yet feature-rich alternative to popular models like the Kobo Clara Colour.

Display and Design

The Bigme B6 features the E Ink Kaleido 3 color e-paper display, which offers a crisp 300 PPI resolution for black-and-white content and 150 PPI for color. The screen sits flush with the bezel and has a glass layer on top for enhanced protection. This allows for a premium feel while still ensuring a robust build quality. The display benefits from an integrated front light system, which comprises 36 white and amber LEDs. You can adjust warm and cold temperature controls for reading in the sunlight or in the dark.

A unique design feature of the new B6 is its virtual navigation buttons that sit below the display area. This can be considered a clever design trick that makes the display seem larger than it actually is. It sort of maximizes the screen space, giving the impression of a 6.3-inch reading area within a 6-inch frame. It seems like there is more screen real estate within the same frame size.

Hardware and Performance

Under the hood, the Bigme B6 comes with an octa-core processor, 4 GB of RAM, and 64GB of internal storage. For heavy users, the device allows expanding the storage to up to 1 TB by way of microSD cards. This should translate to enough space for comics, graphic novels, audiobooks, PDFs, along with regular e-books. Connectivity includes dual-band WiFi and Bluetooth 5.1. Other features include HiFi speakers, a microphone, and a G-sensor for added functionality.

Powering the e-reader is a 2,100mAh battery, which should keep the device powered for a few weeks easily. Bigme, however, doesn’t mention how long the battery is expected to last before requiring a power top-up. The device, meanwhile, weighs just 176 grams and measures 108 x 149 x 6.98 mm in dimensions. This makes it among the most lightweight and portable e-reader devices around. For reference, the Kobo Clara Colour weighs 174 grams. The latest base Kindle model, however, weighs a much lighter 158 grams but comes with a 6-inch monocrome E Ink display.

Software and Features

What sets the Bigme B6 apart from the rest is its operating system. It runs the more recent Android 14 with Google Play pre-installed, which means easy access to millions of apps, services, and content. This makes for a huge advantage over the likes of the Kindle or the Kobo, which allows users access to a closed ecosystem. Users can install reading apps, productivity tools, and even entertainment apps, which makes it among the most versatile e-readers in its category.

The device also supports four refresh modes, each designed to suit different content types —text, comics, images, or video. This ensures smoother performance depending on the content. These apart, the B6 also boasts advanced features which include AI-powered tools, real-time voice translation, and text-to-speech. All of these allow for enhanced accessibility and productivity.

Availability and Customization

The Bigme B6 is available in attractive color options of black, white, and green. This can be matched with colorful protective cases that come in shades of blue, green, purple, pink, and grey. It stands out for offering features like Android 14, Google Play, expandable storage, and advanced AI features, all at an extremely competitive price tag of under $170. This makes the new Bigme B6 a truly unique package in the segment.

You can also buy the Bigme B6 directly from the company store, where it is sold for an even lower price of $139. However, buying from Amazon still makes better sense as it offers easy returns and a more transparent shopping experience marked by reliable customer support and clear warranty policies.
