There may not be any dearth of E Ink tablet devices in the 10-inch plus category sporting the Kaleido 3 color e-paper display though not so in the 13.3-inch segment. There sure is the Readmoo Mooink Pro 2C that comes with a 13.3 E INK Kaleido 3 display but has a 206 PPI black and white resolution and 103 PPI color resolution. Both are quite unimpressive compared to the 300 PPI and 150 PPI resolution that the Kaleido 3 display is capable for monochrome and color displays respectively in the 10-inch category.
Things seem set for a change what with rumors of E Ink working on a new 13.3-inch Kaleido 3 display having the same display resolution as its 10-inch counterpart. The rumor has its origin in a post made by Yuntai Technology-Lian Kun on the Chinese social media site Xiaohongshu. There isn’t much that we know of the upcoming display while the leakster too has precious little to reveal about the new E Ink display. There is no way the above claim can be verified as well, which means we have no other option but to accept the same at its face value.
Our best bet is that the leakster is believed to be an employee at Yuantai which might have provided him with a sneak peak into the upcoming display tech. The leakster meanwhile stated the upcoming 13.3-inch display has model no. ED133KC1 and comes with a glass screen, which makes it rigid in its construction rather than being flexible with the plastic screen.
While it is all speculation at the moment though it’s likely there is going to be a monochrome e-paper display offering 300 PPI resolution. Accompanying the same is going to be a colored version having 300 PPI and 150 PPI resolution for black and white and color display respectively.
Coming to the launch plans, the new display is expected to be launched during Double 11 or the month of November. Also, it is going to be the Chinese companies that would have first access to the new display before others get the same. So, there likely is going to be a clutch of new large-screen e-note devices expected towards the end of the year and early next. Pricing could be well above the $1000 mark given that the Readmoo Mooink Pro 2C 13.3 E INK Kaleido 3 device now sells for a $1,099.99 price tag.
Stay tuned for more on this as it emerges.
