E Ink announced it has teamed up with MediaTek to distribute Amazon Kindle Kids e-reader devices to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Louisiana. This initiative forms part of E Ink’s ‘eRead for the Future’ program. A total of 58 Kindle Kids e-reader devices have been donated for the purpose. The initiative hopes to develop a habit of reading in kids.
“The donation from E Ink and MediaTek will have a meaningful impact on the children,” said Brandon Smith, Clubs Director of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Louisiana. “Access to books and educational tools is crucial for our Club kids’ development, and these Kindle devices open up a world of opportunities for their learning.”
The Kindle Kids e-reader offers a great reading experience thanks to its 6-inch E Ink display. The 300PPI resolution and 16-level gray scale display offer excellent contrast and brightness, thereby allowing for a sharp and crisp rendering of the text and images. The glare-free display, along with negligible to zero blue light emission, makes it extremely eye-friendly.
There is going to be zero eye strain even after prolonged reading. What’s more, the display has excellent readability even in direct sunlight, while the front light feature makes sure you are able to read just as comfortably even in complete darkness without hurting your eyes. Battery life is also counted in weeks and months. All of these qualities make the Kindle Kids an excellent device for kids to get along with their reading.
All of the Kindle Kids devices come with a free subscription to the Amazon Kids+ program for six months. This will allow free access to content specially curated for the kids. This comprises e-books, audiobooks, and more. This ensures they have access to only the right stuff that is suitable for their age, helping the children explore, learn, and grow their creativity in a safe environment.
The timing of the donation program is also just perfect, what with the approaching summer days. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Louisiana is running a Summer Reading program with the aim of reinstalling in the kids a habit of reading during the summer. And what better device to get about doing than the Kindle Kids e-reader.
The eye-friendly attribute of the E Ink displays has also been acknowledged by the Harvard School of Public Health compared to traditional displays such as LCD or LED. The American Optometric Association has also stated that the blue light emitted by LCD/LED displays can harm our eyes in the long term.
“This collaboration with E Ink and the Boys & Girls Clubs is a wonderful opportunity to share our passion for technology with future generations,” said Jerry Yu, Corporate Senior Vice President at MediaTek. “These Kindles are valuable tools that ensure our youth have access to more important resources to empower deeper learning.”
“Our partnership with MediaTek and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Louisiana is steeped in helping inspire a lifelong love of reading,” said Lynne Garone, Associate Vice President of Corporate Learning and Social Responsibility at E Ink Corporation. “Our ePaper technology is designed to make reading more enjoyable and accessible for kids everywhere.”
