Solar Powered Solis 32 Display Based on E Ink Spectra 6 Showcased at SID

E Ink has put up a sizeable presence at SID Display Week. The company is showcasing some of its latest and the technologically most advanced e-paper displays at the event held at San Jose, USA. One interesting E Ink display that got showcased at the event is the Solis 32 Display developed by one of E Ink’s partner companies, Agile Display Solutions.

The Solis 32 Display is special in that it is entirely solar-powered. For this, the display comes with a solar array mounted on the top of the display. It can harness energy from indoor lighting, enabling up to three display updates every day. Specifically, the display requires 1000 lux of illumination for 12 hours daily to sustain this capability.

Another advantage of solar power is that there are no cables involved, something that often makes things look messy. This makes the installation super easy and clean, simply pick up the display and place it anywhere that you deem fit. The display is also completely maintenance free. Just hang it once and you are all set.

As Paul Williams from Agile Display puts it, “You need to hang it once and never touch it again.” The display can be managed remotely from a central location, allowing for content updates via Wi-Fi connectivity. The process is the same, whether it is a single or several thousand of such displays.

Agile Display further stated, the Solis 32 is based on Spectra 6 display technology and measures 32-inch diagonally. The company also stated the E Ink display is 97 percent recyclable as it is essentially made of glass and aluminium. The display has 2560 x 1440 pixels resolution and has a pixel density of 93 ppi. It supports 65,000 colors and takes 18 seconds for the display to be updated completely.
