The $37 E Ink MP3 Player You Didn’t Know You Needed

Here’s something that the music buffs might appreciate: a cute little E Ink MP3 player that recently appeared on Reddit and is currently selling on Amazon. The device is manufactured by a company called Yoidesu, which I’d wager not many have heard of. The device is listed as Yoidesu14f2x9tgyq in the Amazon listing, which is perhaps the weirdest name ever conjured. It seems less like the name of a device and more like someone typing wildly on the keyboard.

Nonetheless, it comes with a 2.7-inch touchscreen monochrome E Ink display which offers controls for several functions such as a microphone, radio, an alarm clock, along with music controls, of course. Surprisingly, there is a dictionary as well, along with several other features.

You can also use the device for reading, which makes it a handy, ultra-portable e-book reader device. However, with just a 2.7-inch display, this can be a stop-gap measure at best before you get back to reading on your regular device. It supports a microSD storage of up to 128 GB. There is also a USB-C port for charging as well as for data transfer purposes. It supports various audio formats, which include OGG, MP3, WAV, M4A (128kbps), WMA, APE, and AAC. For e-books, it supports the TXT book format.

It comes with a pair of built-in tiny speakers, as you’d expect from a device this small. The sound quality is decent, but don’t expect anything extraordinary here.  It can get surprisingly loud, though you might still find it hard to catch up with every beat in a noisy public space.

However, things are a lot better when you pair your favorite listening device with the Yoidesu music player via Bluetooth. For this, it supports Bluetooth 5.0. connectivity. The onboard battery is large enough to sustain operations for an entire day. As it is, e-paper displays consume very little power as they can sustain a display without draining the battery. It is only when the display changes that power is drawn. E Ink display, as is already known, is flicker-free and emits a negligible amount of blue light, qualities that make it extremely eye-friendly.

The Yoidesu is currently selling for $36.78. The company otherwise has a diverse range of products in its portfolio, which include accessories, smart devices, to even laptops. You can visit the Amazon Yoidesu store for more details.
