PocketBook Verse Color Set to Launch Soon

PocketBook is looking to introduce a new color e-reader soon. This can be made out from a listing on the FCC certification site which recently provided the necessary clearance to the PocketBook device for selling the e-reader in the US. Further, given that the upcoming color e-reader bears the model number PB634K3, it would be perhaps safe to assume it is going to be the color version of the PocketBook Verse Pro the company has already been offering since last year. The Verse Pro has the model number PB634.

If that be true, the Verse Color can be speculated to have the same basic specs as that of the Verse Pro given that this happens to be the usual PocketBook strategy, that of launching color models having similar specs as that of its black and white counterpart. That way, expect the Verse Color to have a 6-inch Kaleido 3 display capable of displaying 300 PPI and 150 PPI resolution in black and white and color modes respectively. The display is going to be front-lit, which means comfortable reading in any external lighting conditions.

Further, much like the Verse Pro, the Verse Color is also expected to have a dual-core processor under the hood, coupled with 512 MB of memory and 8 GB of storage. In fact, PocketBook would do good to add a few more GBs of storage given that 8 GB is paltry by today’s standards. Other features expected of the Verse Color include a 1500 mAh battery, Wi-Fi, G-sensor, and a USB-C port. It supports a wide range of e-book formats. Also, given that it supports ADOBE DRM which means it is going to be compatible with online library services. This makes borrowing of online books a hassle-free operation.

Other features the Verse Color is expected to come with include Text-to-Speech with the option to choose from 26 different languages and an IPX8 waterproof rating. The Verse Color will also come with page turn buttons while a separate Home button will drive you back to the Home page.

Coming to the price, the Verse Color is expected to be priced around $230. Kaleido 3 displays are a bit more expensive than their black and white e-paper counterparts. For reference, the Verse Pro sells for around $170. Meanwhile, other color e-readers PocketBook has introduced in recent times include the InkPad Color 3, Era Color, and the Eo Color.

Stay tuned for more on this.
