Pebble is officially staging a comeback, and this time it’s not just nostalgia driving the buzz. The company has revealed what appears to be the final version of the Pebble Time 2, a smartwatch that blends Pebble’s trademark minimalist style with modern upgrades designed to compete in today’s crowded wearable market.
A Familiar Design, Sharpened for 2025
Founder Eric Migicovsky describes the Time 2 as “the watch of his dreams”, and the hardware reflects that ambition. While the look still recalls Pebble’s earlier devices, the build is more premium: a 316L stainless steel case, hardened flat glass on top, and a quick-release 22mm strap system. At just 48 grams, it remains one of the lightest smartwatches in its category, giving it a distinctly wearable edge over bulkier options like the Garmin Instinct or Casio Pro Trek.
E Ink Screen With Modern Comforts
Pebble continues to bet on its unique display technology rather than pursuing the OLED route taken by Apple and Samsung. The 1.5-inch color e-paper touchscreen is designed for outdoor readability, featuring a multicolor RGB backlight for use in darker settings. The company claims visibility in direct sunlight rivals that of traditional watches—something most mainstream smartwatches still struggle with.
The low-power display is also what fuels the Pebble Time 2’s biggest selling point: a 30-day battery life. For comparison, Apple’s latest Watch SE offers around 18 hours, and even fitness-focused watches from Fitbit typically last less than a week.
Features That Matter
Beyond the display, Pebble has worked to balance simplicity with practicality. Confirmed features include:
- Step and sleep tracking
- Heart rate monitoring
- Compass navigation
- Speaker for alerts and calls
- Linear vibration motor for notifications
- Water resistance (rating not yet disclosed)
These are all packaged in a watch that still feels true to Pebble’s roots: functional, understated, and geared toward everyday use rather than luxury.
Why This Matters in 2025
Pebble’s return is more than a quirky revival—it could spark competition in a smartwatch market that’s been defined largely by Apple and Samsung. With most major players pushing towards brighter, flashier screens and short battery lives, Pebble’s emphasis on endurance, sunlight readability, and simplicity could appeal to users who are tired of charging their smartwatch every night.
That makes Time 2 particularly appealing to hikers, travelers, and professionals who prioritize practicality over app overload. In many ways, Pebble is returning to the very audience that made it a Kickstarter sensation over a decade ago.
Pricing and Availability
The Pebble Time 2 is now available for pre-order at $225, with shipments expected to begin in December 2025. Buyers will eventually be able to choose from four color options, with final selections confirmed after purchase. Existing Pebble 2 Duo pre-orders can also be converted to the Time 2 without losing priority in the queue.
