As anticipated, Eazeye has introduced the new Paper 2 RLCD tablet that offers a paper-like display. Effectively, it is an LCD with the backlight turned off, which makes it reflective in nature and is hence called a Reflective LCD or simply RLCD panel. Unlike e-reader or e-note devices such as the Kindle Scribe or the reMarkable Paper Pro, the Paper 2 does not feature an E Ink display.
Specifically, the Paper comes with a 10.3-inch RCLD panel having 1920 x 1440 pixels resolution, which translates to a 225 PPI pixel density. One of the advantages of RCLD vis-à-vis E Ink is the former’s support for high refresh rate. The Paper 2 allows for a 60 Hz refresh rate, which means smooth video playback and scrolling effect. With no backlight behind the screen, the tablet relies on ambient light for reading. There is a front light, though, for reading at night.
Further adding to the paper-like feel is the presence of an Ultra High Reflectivity (UHR) layer that makes the display all the more reflective, thereby reducing glare. Further, the presence of IGZO transistors along with support for a variable refresh rate ensures static content is stable enough while the power drawn is just the bare minimum. The adjustable front light has low blue light emission for better quality sleep even after a late-night reading session.
Other specs of the Paper 2 include a MediaTek Helio G99 processor that is paired with 8 GB RAM and 128 GB of storage. There is also an SD card slot that supports external storage of up to 1 TB. Power comes from a 6,000 mAh battery, which is rated to last 15 hours of active usage with the front light on. With the front light turned off, Paper 2 will support a reading time of around 67 hours.
The tablet runs Android 14 with support for the Google Play Store or other third-party app stores. It also supports advanced AI features, which include an integrated voice-first AI that allows for note-taking, live transcription, and instant Q&A. The best thing here is that all of these features ensure the highest levels of privacy at both the hardware and software levels.
Connectivity options include Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.1, while the USB-C port onboard allows for a wired connection besides charging the battery. There are also a speaker and a mic, with the option to turn off the latter thanks to a physical button present.
Coming to the price, the Paper 2 can now be ordered for $379.99. However, that’s not the real price, which happens to be 55 percent more, as the company is offering a discount at the moment over the regular price. The above-mentioned price is inclusive of the Paper 2 tablet, along with the stylus and folio case. The discount is going to be applicable for a limited time, which means you’ve got to hurry if you’d like to own one of these.
