Here is a new e-reader device that has appeared on the scene. It is the Musnap Neo C, and it is currently available on Amazon. It is a little-known company that most people have probably never heard of. The e-reader sports a 6-inch color E Ink display. As the eBook Reader Blog reported, the Musnap Neo C could likely be a rebranded iReader device similar to the Musnap Aura C eNote that had also appeared on Amazon a couple of months ago. It is still on sale, but for a slightly steep price tag of $550.
The same goes for the Musnap Neo C as well, which is currently selling for $219. That sure is quite on the higher side for an e-reader that offers a 6-inch Kaleido 3 color e-paper display. For that amount, what you get with the Musnap Neo C includes a 2.0 GHz quad-core CPU, 4 GB of RAM, and 64 GB of native storage. The Neo C also supports Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity. The display is front-lit and offers temperature controls.
For the operating system, what is known is that it runs Android, though the exact version is not known. The Aura C eNote runs Android 11, which is quite dated, and it would be nothing short of a disaster if the Neo C too comes with the same version. Nonetheless, the Android platform has its own advantages, as you can always install the apps of your choice, which include any e-book reading software.
The Musnap Neo C supports a wide range of e-books and image formats. That includes JPG, JPEG, PNG for images, and xt, epub, pdf, umd, mobi, ebk2, ebk3, and azw3 book formats. Font formats the e-reader supports include ttf, otf, ttc while audio formats the Neo C is compatible with include mp3, flac, wav, m4a, aac. Office documents that the e-reader can read include XLS, xlsx, ppt, pptx, doc, and docx.
Apart from these, there is nothing more that the Amazon listing reveals. There are contact pins shown on the rear of the e-reader, which could be contact points for the attachment of a cover. That said, there aren’t any official covers available for sale. The particular dark green shade of the Neo C is quite alluring, it must be said. It is the color itself that perhaps invites a second look at a device that otherwise lacks any distinctive flair.
For those tempted to buy the device, the positive thing here is that it is backed by Amazon. That makes it more trustworthy and safer to invest in. However, you can have the Kobo Clara Colour for a much cheaper $159. The only downside with the Clara Colour, in spite of its reputable lineage, is that it is locked to the Kobo ecosystem. The Meebook M6C runs Android 11 and is also much cheaper at $189.
