The ‘Paper 7’ is the newest entrant in the digital picture frame segment. According to Liliputing, Paper 7 has been developed by Paperless Paper and comes with a 7.3-inch E Ink Spectra 6 color e-paper display. The e-paper panel has a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels and a 127 PPI pixel density. Those behind the ‘Paper 7’ insist the frame is made of real wood. The company describes it as a solid ash wood frame that is coupled to a white mat. Color options with the frame include natural wood, black, and white.
The display is powered by four AAA batteries, which the makers said will last up to 6 months. However, this applies if the image is changed only once every day. In any case, there is a USB-C port as well, and it can serve as an alternate power source. The displayed image can be changed online via an app using a Wi-Fi 6 connection. There is an app available for both Android and iOS platforms. Besides, the ‘Paper 7’ also supports Bluetooth LE.
The Leipzig-based company also stated that the device will never be associated with a subscription model. The software will be open-source, and you will always be able to replace the pre-installed software with any suitable firmware of your choice. Apart from images, the ‘Paper 7’ can also display other stuff, such as the calendar, weather, to-do list, or even Wikipedia articles as well.
The company further stated that one of their design goals was to offer an affordable digital picture frame using an e-paper display that would be cheaper than the InkPoster launched earlier this year. The InkPoster also comes equipped with an E Ink Spectra 6 display and starts at $599. That said, the InkPoster starts at 13.3 inches and has a 1600 x 1200 pixels resolution. It goes all the way up to 31.5 inches.
In contrast, the ‘Paper 7’ is priced at 189€ including VAT, which comes to around $220. This being the introductory price, the ‘Paper 7’ will eventually cost €199 later on. Orders can be placed at PaperlessPaper.de. The shipment starts from this month itself.
