Dasung Not-eReader 078 and Not-eReader 103 E Ink Tablet With 50Hz Refresh Rate Launched

Dasung has introduced a pair of new E Ink tablets, which they are calling Dasung Not-eReader 078 and Not-eReader 103. Among the biggest USP of the new Dasung tablet devices is its 50 Hz refresh rate. This makes it almost at par with traditional displays such as OLED or LCD that have a minimum 60Hz refresh rate. This is special considering that E Ink displays typically have low refresh rates, something in the vicinity of 10 Hz to 12 Hz.

With a refresh rate as high as 50 Hz for the new Not-eReader 103 and Not-eReader 078, the tablet devices should be able to play back videos and animations smoothly with zero stuttering. Scrolling is also going to be smoother with a 50 Hz display. However, going by the inherent nature of E Ink display technology, a high refresh rate might come with its own shortcomings.

With high refresh speeds, there is likely going to be more ghosting effect, which refers to the remnants of past displays that continue to linger on even after the display changes. The higher the refresh speed, the more likely there is going to be a ghosting effect. As such, the success of higher refresh rates for E Ink displays will depend on how the company is able to minimize the ghosting effect.

Dasung, however, has yet to reveal what the rest of the details are going to be like. Rather, as Liliputing mentioned, there is some confusion so far as the specs are concerned. For instance, an ITHome report claims the Dasung Not-eReader 078 comes with a 7.8-inch  grayscale display having (300 PPI) 1872 x 1404 resolution, 4 GB RAM, 64 GB storage, and a 5600 mAh battery, but does not mention the processor type.

However, another site, Hey Up Now, is claiming that the Not-eReader 078 comes powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 processor, has 128 GB internal storage, and a 3200 mAh battery. The larger Dasung Not-eReader 103, meanwhile, features a larger 10.3-inch display having 1872 x 1404 resolution, which comes to a 227 PPI pixel density. The Not-eReader is stated to come with a 5000 mAh battery. Both tablets are accompanied by styluses having 4096 levels of pressure sensitivity.

Stay tuned for more on this as it emerges.
