The Taiwan-based e-book platform Pubu announced it plans to launch a new e-reader called Pubook Mobile. If you haven’t guessed already, the e-reader will sport a smartphone form factor. That would put it in the same segment as the Onyx Boox Palma 2, the Bigme HiBreak, or the recently launched iReader Tango.
However, the one aspect that will make the upcoming Pubook Mobile stand apart from the rest is its color e-paper display. According to the website eReaderPro, the Pubook Mobile will come with a 6.13-inch E Ink Kaleido 3 color e-paper display, making it the only one in the segment to be so equipped. The Pubook Mobile is slated for launch in the fourth quarter of this year.
The Pubook Mobile will also run a version of Android that will provide access to the Google Play Store. Users will be able to install the e-book reader software they want or any other applications they might need. This allows for a lot of versatility as opposed to e-readers such as the Kindle or the Kobo that are locked to a single, though comprehensive ecosystem.
e-Reader devices sporting the same dimensions as a regular smartphone have become quite popular in recent times with the advent of the Onyx Boox Palma series. However, while all of them have kept themselves restricted to a B/W e-paper display, Pubu is the first to announce an e-reader with a color screen. With support for 4096 colors, the Pubook Mobile will offer soft yet vivid colors.
With a color display, content like comics, illustrations, and other stuff like book covers will look a lot more lifelike. You can easily carry it in your pocket or bag and get along with your reading just about anywhere, be it while travelling, during a break from work, and so on.
Other specs the Pubook Mobile will come with include an integrated receiver, a microphone, and Wi-Fi support. It will come powered by an octa-core processor, 6 GB of RAM, and 128 GB of storage. The device will also let you listen to your favorite audiobooks. Further, with support for Adobe DRM file downloads, you will truly own the e-books you have bought.
