iReader has just announced its latest e-reader offering, the iReader Tango 2. This comes within just months of the company announcing the Tango, which was introduced in May 2025. Around 6 months down the line, the company has come up with the Tango 2, which sports the same basic design and looks but, as Sina.com reported, has some improvements over the former on the software front.
Here is all that has changed with the new iReader Tango 2.
Display and software features
The new iReader Tango 2 comes with the same display characteristics. That includes a 6.13-inch E Ink Carta 1300 panel having 300 PPI, 1648 × 842 pixels resolution, and 256 levels of grayscale. The display also has the same 30 fps refresh rate, though with Fast-refresh 3.0 + iClean 2.0 refresh technology at work, there is an improved ghosting or after-image clearing feature.
The Tango 2 also comes with an improved front glass layer. The company stated it is now a high-transparency tempered (steel-like) glass with nano-etch for improved clarity and durability, and better anti-glare quality. All of this should allow for a markedly improved visual experience with faster page turns, while remnants of previous displays should get cleared off quickly enough to ensure smoother animations and scrolling effects.
Aiding in the visual experience is the improved ComfortLight Pro+ feature, which offers brighter and more uniform light. The company is also claiming the night/soft-light algorithm has been upgraded for better night reading capability.
The Tango 2 also runs the SmartOS 3.1 software version compared to SmartOS on the Tango 1. The latest software iteration offers ‘clock screen modes’ and ‘one-tap parameter extraction’ features, the company claimed.
Hardware, internal build
The Tango 2 otherwise has the same basic internal structure. That includes a 6 nm octa-core processor, an independent GPU, 8 GB of memory, and 128 GB of storage. Battery strength remains the same at 3,900 mAh, which iReader said is good enough to support 111 hours of reading and 27 days of standby time on a single charge.
Connectivity options with the Tango 2 include Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi 2.4/5 GHz, and a Type-C port, which happens to be the same as that on its predecessor. There is also a pair of mics and a speaker on board.
Availability and pricing
The iReader Tango 2 is going to be available only within China initially, where it is priced at 1,899 Yuan. However, the same can be procured for 1,749 Yuan in some regions or 1,574 Yuan after subsidy.
No word yet on its international availability so far. Stay tuned.
