The Mudita Kompakt E Ink phone is set to receive a software update sometime later this month. The upcoming update 1.2.0 is created taking into account all the user feedback it has received so far. And from what seems evident, it is going to be a major update for the Mudita OS K that the Kompakt phone runs. The company has come up with a video where Managing Director Michal Stasiuk is seen providing a detailed roadmap of how they plan to develop the OS in the coming months. More specifically, according to what the MD said, the updates are going to be launched between September 2025 and early 2026.
The MD also revealed that there are going to be at least half a dozen changes that the latest update will introduce.
Here is a brief snapshot of what to expect in the upcoming update:
- Maps & Navigation feature will receive two navigation modes – Map Navigation Mode, which is the default mode, and Step-by-Step Mode. There is going to be voice guidance available in 8 languages with both modes.
- The update will allow sideloading of any APK files via the Mudita Center. The Mudita Center app will first be updated to version 3.1.0. The update for this is going to be released in July 2025. Mudita said this is in response to overwhelming user demand for the same, though the company also cautioned users to sideload only those apps that do not cause undue distractions and are compatible with the e-paper display of the phone. The company also advised against installing financial or other sensitive apps.
- The Mudita meditation cards will henceforth no longer be a part of the E-reader app as a ‘default, non-editable element’.
- The Meditation section is getting overhauled for a better user experience. There are going to be changes to the Statistics section. For instance, the Statistics section will be relocated to the Settings menu to allow for better accessibility. Also, the Meditation countdown is going to be enabled by default.
Apart from these, there are going to be wide-ranging improvements introduced for the launcher, keyboard, text messages, music player, camera, calendar, chess, and accessibility aspect.
The first update is going to be released in September 2025, which will include playlist management in the Music Player app. In Fall 2025, there is going to be another update targeting the SMS feature. This is going to be followed by another update in early 2026, which includes enhancements for the music player and e-book reader.
