Kindle Petit Color Rumored to Bring Wild New Features—Including Color-Changing UI, Swappable Bezels

Amazon could be working on a new Kindle Colorsoft variant that would be up for release as early as this November. According to a Reddit post that first revealed the development, the said device is reportedly named Kindle Petit Color and is touted to feature a display that is similar in size to that of the entry-level Kindle.

The Brazilian Redditor identified by the username Successful_Bear4855 also has a couple of images of the upcoming e-reader to share. As is evident, the Kindle Petit Color sports white bezels, a color choice Amazon does not seem to be too fond of for its Kindle range. Nonetheless, the Redditor has some insights on the upcoming new Kindle to share, which are nothing short of outrageous.

For one, the leaker claims the bezels are replaceable, something quite unprecedented in the segment so far. While the e-reader will come in shades of black and white, there is going to be replaceable bezels available in other color options of green leaf, deep purple, and chromatic gray.

There is going to be another special edition bezel named mermaid, which will have a dual color effect – soft pink to soft teal depending on the viewing angle. Again, replaceable bezels are something that has never been seen on any e-reader before, let alone a Kindle, and it is going to be highly interesting to see how Amazon implements the same, if at all.

The author of the post is also claiming that the Petit has superior color saturation compared to the Kindle Colorsoft. There is even going to be the option to adjust saturation levels and intensity for each individual color, which is another thing that seems too optimistic by today’s standards. In any case, going by the unique quality of Kaleido 3 displays, better colors seem to hurt text sharpness.

Further, Amazon seems keen to make the most of the available colors that Kaleido 3 supports. For instance, users will apparently get to choose what color they’d like to see usual UI elements like Wi-Fi, battery, and Kindle store icons to look like. Even the reading progress status bar will have color elements infused in it and will change colors to reflect the progress you have made with a title.

Needless to say, all that has been mentioned, including the images, is unconfirmed. Amazon has just launched the new 16 GB Kindle Colorsoft along with the Kindle Colorsoft Kids, which happen to be variants of the existing model. The Kindle Petit Color is going to be a whole new Kindle model, and it remains to be seen if Amazon will have another new Kindle device to offer so soon.

It is going to be really interesting to see how this unfolds. Stay tuned.
