Here’s introducing Krono. Made by the Dutch start-up DuRoBo, Krono is described as your personal e-paper focus hub. That’s another way to describe a device that can serve as a pocket e-reader, an idea keeper, and an audio player, all packed into one neat, smartphone-like form factor. It has been some time since the Krono was first revealed, sparking interest worldwide. Now, the good news here is that the company is all set to launch a crowdfunding campaign via Indiegogo. You can sign up right now to claim an early bird discount and receive a free case.
The Krono is positioned in a segment that has created a lot of buzz lately, thanks to the emergence of devices such as the Boox Palma or the Bigme HiBreak Pro. More recently, we found Pubu revealing the Pubook Mobile, sporting a color e-paper display, and is slated for launch around the end of 2025. The obvious advantage of devices of this type is their portability. It’s just like a smartphone that you can carry anywhere. With added functionality, such as an audio player or, as the company stated, an idea keeper, you have a complete package and a go-to device for your daily needs.
The E Ink Carta 1200 display with 300 PPI resolution delivers crisp B/W visuals with improved contrast and faster response times. This ensures you will have a top-notch reading experience just about anywhere. This can be great for reading buffs who can get along with their reading anywhere they want. Then there is also the Spark feature that sets the Kruno apart from the rest. This can be used for jotting down some quick notes or creating memos. It is designed to accept both text and voice-based inputs.
Similarly, with inherent support for Music playback, the Krono can also be your personal music player as well, giving you more ways to relax and unwind apart from reading. You can also take time off to listen to audiobooks, news, or podcasts. It can support WAV and MP3 files along with other file formats such as EPUB, EPUB3, AZW3, MOBI, PDF, TXT, DOC, and DOCX.
The Krono also impresses with its bold yet elegant looks and excellent specs. The 6.13-inch E Ink Carta 1200 display offers a front light with dual temperature controls. This allows for a comfortable reading experience both day and night. Powering the device is an octa-core CPU, which works in tandem with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage. Keeping the device moving is a 3,950 mAh battery, which should sustain things for a couple of days on end easily.
With an open Android system, you can always have the app you need. It supports Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.1 connectivity. Other features include a built-in speaker, dual mics, a smart dial, and a G-sensor. It measures 154 x 80 x 9.0 mm and weighs 173 grams. Color options include Black and White. No pricing or launch details are available as yet.
