Amazon has a new Kindle device to offer. This time, the company has launched a cheaper version of the Kindle Colorsoft, which comes with 16 GB of storage and is priced $249.99. Apart from this, Amazon has also introduced a kid-specific model of the Colorsoft. This makes it the first Kindle model for kids to sport a color display. This should be great news for fans of the comics genre, which can now be read in their original color. The Kindle Colorsoft Kids has been priced $269.99. The Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition will continue to be available for $279.99.
Amazon had launched the Kindle Colorsoft on October 30, 2024, and is the first Kindle device ever to sport a color E Ink display. The company had then positioned the Colorsoft as a high-end e-reader targeted at the premium segment. Their initial release, the Signature Edition, comes with 32 GB of storage along with a few other goodies, such as wireless charging along with a front light that adjusts automatically taking into account the ambient lighting conditions.
The newest versions retain the core features of the original Colorsoft. That includes a glare-free color e-paper display that will let you highlight texts in color. Color options here include yellow, pink, blue, and orange. This will ensure your notes are better organized and easy to distinguish one from the other. However, there are going to be a few compromises with the Kindle Colorsoft Kids and the 16 GB model.
For instance, both the new models lack the auto-adjusting front light. Instead, what you get is a manually adjustable warm light for your reading comfort. Further, the wireless charging feature too will also be missing. Of course, there is going to be the same 7-inch color E Ink display, which offers 150 PPI resolution for color display and 300 PPI resolution when viewing black-and-white content.
The new Colorsoft models will have the same 8 weeks of battery life. They will feature IPX8-rated waterproofing for enhanced levels of protection. Additionally, the Kindle Colorsoft Kids comes with a special case. There are going to be two options here – Starlight Reading and Fantasy River. The price is going to be the same for either. Plus, as is the case with all kid-specific Kindle models, Amazon is also offering a complimentary one-year Amazon Kids+ subscription and robust parental controls.
“We’re constantly looking for ways to make the reading experience even better, including adding color to Kindle for the first time. And our customers love reading Kindle in color—on average, they spend more time on Kindle Colorsoft and read hundreds more pages than on our other Kindle devices”, Amazon stated in a blog post. “That’s why we’re excited to introduce two new additions to the Kindle Colorsoft family: a lower-priced 16 GB model and the first-ever Kindle Colorsoft Kids.”
Both models are currently available to order.
