Onyx Boox had an event lined up on October 21 and was expected to launch new hardware devices. The company didn’t disappoint either and introduced the new Boox Note Air5 C device. It comes across as a color E Ink tablet with a 10.3-inch Kaleido 3 color e-paper display. The tablet runs Android 15 and is positioned as a light productivity and note-taking device.
Here is all that is known of the Boox Note Air5 C as of now.
Key hardware specifications
As already stated, the Boox Note Air5 C comes with a 10.3-inch Kaleido 3 color e-paper display. It offers a black-and-white 2480 x 1860 (300 PPI) and color 1240 x 930 (150 PPI) resolution, with support for 4,096 hues. As is the case with all E Ink devices from the company, the Boox Note Air5 C also benefits from the BOOX Super Refresh Technology, which ensures a bare minimum ghosting effect. This leads to snappier UI and a smoother scrolling effect.
Further, there is also the Boox EinkWise technology at work, which allows for one-tap display optimization for different apps/content. The front light feature, present with color temperature control, ensures the optimum viewing experience irrespective of whether you are reading outdoors in the sun or at night. The bundled Pen 3 (EMR) stylus offers improved pen feel and a “pen-on-paper” experience.
Making up the heart of the device is an octa-core processor, though the exact SoC vendor/model is yet to be specified. There is 6 GB of memory onboard along with 64 GB of internal storage. There is support for external storage of up to 2 TB via microSD cards. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi (2.4/5 GHz), Bluetooth, and USB-C with OTG. The tablet also comes with built-in microphone and speakers.
Software & workflow highlights
As already stated, the Boox Note Air5 C runs the latest Android 15 version with Play Store access. This way, you have access to the entire Android ecosystem of apps, services, and content. You can install mainstream office, note, reading, and annotation apps of your choice, even though Boox bundles its own Notes and Reader apps optimized for e-paper displays.
The UI has also been optimized for productivity, which includes support for split-screen multitasking as well as a tablet-style UI for arranging apps and widgets. This makes the Boox Note Air 5C excellent for light office tasks such as reviewing color PDFs, annotating, and so on.
The bundled Pen3 stylus offers an improved paper-like handwriting feel. Plus, there are lots of writing tools provided to ensure you are never left wanting for anything when penning down your thoughts, journaling, annotating, and such. Those include templates, smart selection, and the annotation tool, etc.
Accessories & ecosystem
The Boox Note Air5 C is accompanied by accessories that are designed to make a very fulfilling ownership experience and trouble-free usage. For instance, there is the Magnetic Keyboard Cover that can transform the tablet into a sort of notebook for enhanced productivity. Otherwise, there is also the Magnetic Protective Case that you can opt for.
