Boox Launches Firmware V4.1 Beta for Note Max and Tab X C Users

Boox said it is in the process of rolling out its new Firmware V4.1 Beta program. As a Reddit post on this reveal, the company is inviting users to text the new update on their devices and report back to the company if they run into any errors and other issues. Boox said they will only be accepting entries from those users who have the Note Max or Tab X C devices at their disposal.

The V4.1 Beta comes with a range of upgrades, which include a newly redesigned E Ink Center, a pair of new pen brushes, and an improved lasso toolbar. Additionally, the frontlight modes are going to be user customizable, while there are going to be PDF reading themes, library backup and restore, and a new sync strategy that will enable users to source file uploads to the Onyx Cloud. Apart from these, there are also going to be new UI and UX refinements introduced as part of the update.

That said, it being a beta release, there might be some discrepancies and irregularities that are common to all beta versions. All that the testers are required to do is report any issues that they come across so that Boox is able to come up with a suitable fix. However, some of these issues might be serious enough to hamper the normal functioning of the E Ink tablet itself. Users, therefore, should be ready to handle any such situations that arise from the use of the beta update.

Apart from the device malfunctioning post the installation of the beta update, users might also face data loss issues. Users are therefore warned to keep a backup of important data just in case things don’t go as planned. The company is even encouraging only those users to sign up for the bta test program who have a spare e-note device at their disposal. Installing the beta version on their daily-use tablet is definitely not recommended.

Those who might still be tempted to join the beta test program can do so by tapping on Settings> System Update > Apple for Beta Testing. Also, it is a one-way journey. There is no way you can opt out of the program once you are in. That said, you will always be able to install future updates as and when they become available.
