Bigme just announced they are set to launch its first E Ink smartphone which is going to be part of the HiBreak series. Right now details about the upcoming smartphones are scarce though what is known is that there is going to be a black-and-white and a colored version of the phone available. The black-and-white model is going to be priced at $359.99 while the colored model will set you back $459.99. Both the phones are expected to hit shelves by the end of May this year.
While the company is loathe to reveal any of the details at the moment, it has released a teaser video on the Chinese social site BiliBili depicting both smartphone models. From what can be made out from the video, the phones will have a camera and flash module at the rear with the company logo placed on the rear middle. The phones will be running Android and will provide full Google Play access. There is going to be a USB-C port as well.
E Ink devices in the smartphone form factor are quite popular given the portable dimensions that make them extremely handy. Apart from being a full-fledged smartphone, such devices can always serve as e-readers with the right app installed. The Onyx Boox Palma is among the more well-known E Ink devices but is not a smartphone. On the other hand, Hisense has a couple of E Ink smartphones to offer but there already are rumors of the company exiting the segment altogether.
As such, it is going to be interesting to see how things pan out in this segment in the coming days. Stay tuned!
