PocketBook Color Note Unveiled: A Flexible, Glass-Free E Ink Tablet That Redefines Eye-Friendly Reading

PocketBook has announced the launch of its new E Ink tablet device named Color Note. The tablet, developed in partnership with Taiwan-based Readmoo, features a 10.3-inch Kaleido 3 color e-paper panel. What makes the Color Note unique is that it features a flexible display, with no glass layer on top. This translates to a significantly improved reading experience, given that the e-paper layer is fully exposed with nothing between it and the human eye.

The display otherwise has a black-and-white resolution of 1404 x 1872, which translates to 227 PPI. When viewing color content, the resolution comes down to 702 x 936 pixels or 113 PPI. The display is front lit, which ensures a comfortable reading experience whether out in the sun or in the dark, thanks to the warm and cool temperature control feature. The display is glare-free and has negligible blue light emission, which makes it extremely eye-friendly.

The Color Note comes powered by a 2.4 GHz quad-core processor, 4 GB of RAM, and 32 GB of eMMC storage. You can further add up to 256 GB of storage via microSD cards. It comes pre-installed with Android 12, which however is a bit dated, it must be said. It is not known if Google Play Store is supported, though you can install third-party apps or connect to third-party app stores. e-Book formats supported include ACSM, AZW, AZW3, CBR, CBZ, DJVU, DOCX, EPUB (DRM), EPUB3, FB2, FB2.ZIP, HTM, HTML, MOBI, PDF, PRC, RTF, and TXT.

The E Ink tablet can also be used for listening to audiobooks, podcasts, or music, for which it comes with a built-in speaker. Plus, you can also pair it with a headset or earbud via Bluetooth 5.2. Other features include a G-sensor for automatic screen rotation depending on whether it is held in portrait or landscape orientation. Keeping the device alive is a 4,000 mAh battery. Though not specifically mentioned, the battery should last a couple of weeks easily. Recharging can be done via USB-C port and supports fast charging.

The Color Note comes bundled with a Wacom stylus that supports 4,096 levels of pressure sensitivity. The stylus also includes an eraser, which makes note-taking all the more convenient.

Regarding its availability, the Color Note can be ordered via the Readmoo website, where it is priced NTD 20,888. However, the price has been discounted recently to NTD 16,999, which converts to $580 USD. However, the Color Note is only available to buy within Taiwan, and it is not known when, if at all, it is going to see an international release.
